Intermission is a fictitious app designed to help people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome practice pacing, an energy management technique used to improve quality of life and avoid a worsening of symptoms. The app uses Spoon Theory, a framework for explaining chronic illness created by Christine Miserandino. People with chronic illness start their day off with a finite number of “spoons” (units of energy) and once the spoons are used, they can’t be replenished. Intermission lets you plan your day according to how many spoons you have so you can set realistic expectations and respect your body’s limits.
